My Bryopsis control

I was struggling with bryopsis..I decided to try the natural route..I introduced a pair of Lettuce Nudibranch's.

to date they have wiped out two large patches of the bryopsis and are heading towards the clumps near the left end of the tank.

it does take them time..to consume the bryopsis...it is interesting to watch how the seach for the food.

they appear to locate the patches..then go feed on one then move to another after they consume the 1st one.
 
Yes, they are a very good way of controlling bryopsis, mentioned it a few times in various posts...The asumption that tangs and such will happily eat it, for me, is yet to be seen...

they actually are pretty good at controlling it.
 
yes, apparently you can bump the magesium and it will kill the bryopsis off. but the levels need to get high . some have had issues with some corals(temporary)

I like the nudibranchs they add color to the aquarium.
my tomini did try and taste one and didn't care for it much;)
 
oh man..so I'm researching bryopsis..and I remember a few weeks back I removed a sea slug(nidibranch) I thought was maybe distructive but could never find a picture of it..well

I found a picture of it in the internet..it was a Elysia Viridis ..and guess what..it eats bryopsis:cry: :swear:

Yeah, if you raise the magnesium too much, too fast, it can bleach some of the corals.

Ask me how I know. :mad2:

Yeah...I know..lucky for me there is a LFS that specializes in reef set ups in renton.

they have been a ton of help.

they sugested to raise the Mg levels slowly if the sea slugs don't work..'lucky for me he sold me the ones he had in a tank that he was using them in to fight a small bryopsis outbreak..it as well under control when I aquired the lettuce sea slugs.
it's interesting to see how they work..they appear to suck the green out of the bryopsis..and take it down to where I can see no trace of the devil weed.
