My Calvus Surprised me Today...

But what if she laid eggs already i wouldn't remove it she clearly likes it and i have read that they intentionally do this to keep the larger males from entering.

I don't think she laid, and if she did, I think her or the male ate them. The shell is going, she couldn't get far enough in there to prevent him from getting at her or the eggs anyway. They've been back to their respective areas of the tank for the past 24 hours or so, with little attention paid to the shell.

I'm still pretty sure she's just too young. Most reports I've read state the female being at least 2 1/2", and she's right around 2".

Thant's true, I'm just always paranoid about fish getting stuck in places too small for them, especially when it is a fish like a clavus, that doesn't come cheap. I do forget that this is how these fish evolved, and if they couldn't fit in the shell they would move on. I'm still a noob sometimes lol.

No your not man your fine. Its pretty cool how these fish do the whole shell thing anyways, i would freak in the small confines only knowing i had one way out and couldn't turn around.. whew got the willy's thinking about it hehehe..

I am thinking about trying these out but i emailed the owner and asked if they could be in a different color as for the current calvus caves they are pretty much ugly.

Yeah, they're pretty ugly. I think I'm going to stick with the shells and hope she's smart enough to not get stuck. I was reading the other day that problems happen when the shell is too large, actually. They'll apparently try to wedge themselves too far into the shell and get stuck. Thanks for the links.
 
If the owner can make them black i will give them a try so i went ahead and ordered a bunch of crap from them on other stuff like some more whale-eyes, small rocks and few other things that i really dont need.

Man you were reading my mind (freaky huh) i read the same thing about the larger shells causing problems for females, so i am just going to stay with the escargots and Babylonia Spirata that i have..

My calvus actually like the small conchs so if i can boot out my multi's in the 55gal i have about five of them in those right now..

You must like to research as much as I do. I've really got to find work in this field.

If you want some shells let me know. I'm off most of the rest of the year, and I love trudgeing around in the Gulf bays. Did I mention it's beach weather here? Lol.
