why?

is there some reason it isnt. hes about 1 1/2 inches long in my 10 gallon tank and hes about a month old or so. is it just that he doesnt want to eat them or is it that he isnt seeing them?

i dont think it is a true SAE. i dont know if it is getting algae from the tank. it might but i havent seen any algae anywhere. i plan on upgrading to a 29 gallon or bigger aquarium sometime soon.

Mine does not eat the wafers, as a matter of fact it will push them aside to suck on the gravel under them...

Chinese Algae Eaters don't really eat Algae. Their sale should be banned. Just get rid of it... it WILL attack your other fish.

Yes they will eat algae ,it is thier primary diet however they are agressive toward many other broadsided fish and perfer the taste of the slime coat to the algae. with proper care they are a very nice fish and can grow upwards of 20 inches . Provide enough hidding spots for your other fish and try crumbling the wafers into much smaller bits, even at half or quarter they may still be to big for it.

They stop eating algae once they reach a certain age, and become very aggressive. They are not considered TRUE algae eaters, like the SAE.

I don't think I like reading that these fish get aggressive as they age. It may be the reason my panda cories (3) died suddenly. Why don't the pet stores tell you this info? And 20 inches?? I'm in trouble if that's the case. I'm sorry I didn't research it better before I bought him b/c every now and then I see him "go after" another fish in my tank but it seems quick so I don't think much of it until I read this info. Mine is almost 4 inches and doesn't eat the wafers either and I've had him 7 months now. He seems to eat food that falls to the floor. I'm going to keep a close eye on him now to make sure he isn't causing too much trouble in my tank. It's a shame b/c they are cool looking.
