I just bought 4 Corys just a few days ago. When I fed them tonight, I noticed that one's eyes were bulging. I immediately scooped him out and put him in a salt dip. I watched him for a little while and came to the conclusion that he has dropsy. He is having trouble swimming. I added 1 tsp/gal. to my 20 gal. tank to try to prevent the rest of my fish from having problems. What else can I do? Should I also up the temp? I have never dealt with this disease before and all of a sudden I have lost two fish and possibly one more. Please help.

Salt dip might not be such a great idea, you might be just stressing him by suddenly changing the water chemistry. I don't know much about dropsy but I do know cories are scaleless fish so some medications would might not be good for them

Then what should I do? I have him in a mild saltwater solution, I will water it down more if you think it is best, but I still have to do something to get rid of this disease.

I have no experience with Dropsy so I can't really give you good advice. Maybe try googling for "dropsy corydoras" or "dropsy scaleless fish" or osmething to see if there are any articles. other than that I dont know how i can help you.

How can you tell if cories have dropsy btw they dont have scales

His eyes were bulging. At first I thought it was popeye and when I took him out and put him in a bowl, I noticed he was having trouble swimming. The salt seems to be helping.

Scaleless??

Dropsy is an internal infection and difficult to cure. I've heard of special medicated foods working, but haven't tried it myself. Often by the time it's recognized it's too advanced.

Cory N Dropsy

SO SORRY.TRY N CHANGE D WATER EVERY 4 HOUR. ADD 5CC OF TETRACYCLINE [500mg in 20cc] into each new water .4 episodes. then continue normal habitat.

Corydoras are ARMORED catfish.

SCALED.

Sheesh.

Roan

It is my understanding that corys DO NOT have scales. They are armored or have bony plates, but these are different from scales.

It seems like dropsy is almost impossible to treat. But, if it is just pop eye I would give it a shot. You might try a med. and just do frequent water changes to keep it clean for him since hes only in a bowl and make sure the temp. doesn't fluctuate too much. You might see if you can find something that would float in the tank to keep the temp. the same
