It's a big difference in color. Around 50 seconds into her video, Jacki mentions that he changed color.. just before commenting how dexterous he is.

I can see she has the same crab I do... just my Crusty has the large claw on the other side. Mine went through the same color change.

The other thing about identification, Cuvier... there's another crab species that gets confused with these in the pet trade. That one is a Halloween Crab (Gecarcinus quadratus). You'll often find these two species mislabeled.

The Rainbow Crab (Cardisoma armatum) has white claws, so that's the easiest way to tell at a quick glance that you're not getting the Halloween Crab instead.

Examples of Gecarcinus quadratus... note the claws here are purple.

Yes, and another "soap dish crab" is being imported -- in soap dishes, no surprise -- from Thailand (see here and here).

I love the guy in the second link. He has such a great sense of humor. I think I have read what he has to say about every animal he has on his site.
