my dead REEF

im studying anemoneis right now in my marine biology coarse and have dealt with almost every species in the trade at my work and one cannot poison an aquarium they can only hurt within close or exact contact. sea apples can release a poison anemonies administer it. im not saying your wrong but like fisieness said its very unlikely are you sure it wasnt something else combine? im just trying to make sure you dont loose more fish im not challenging or insulting you.
 
It's the only thing that it could have been. so yes the anemone is to blame.
 
there are countless things it could have been, most of them, we cant test for.


how was the anem acting before this occured? what about now?
 
the anemone? Dead. I moved it to another tank to protect the main system. the anemone was fine just mad
 
from what i know, a tube anemone is the only thing that "releases" its "stinging cells". if a carpet killed your tank, it could only be from traveling around and stining other corals, or a result of bad water from the pet store which they can retain in their bodies, which is what makes them look inflated, even after proper acclimation. they usually release the water from their bodies on a regular basis to remove excess waste and add the water from your tank to their body. it's possible poor quality water from the petstore released into your aquarium.
 
but that woudl ahve to be EXTREMELY bad water to kill everythign in a 200 gallon
by any chance do you have sensitive, toxic corals such as palythoas around the tank that your anem was stinging?
and of course, you may want to check your water paramenters :sim:
 
tank has been running close to 2 years w/o problems. only thing near was a brain coral now dead as well, my elephant ear still lives on...for now. SG 1.022. Amm 0 ITES 0 ATES 8 ph 8.3 photic period is 4 hours halide 4 hours actenic 2X18W water change is 10% weekly. the only new thing at that particular week was the p.helios anemone. thats the only thing added in 3 weeks.
