i have try a very slow water flow with a bubbles and it's work... i hope it's can help me too
so.... the object is increase functionality of anaerob doing his job
by the way... i want to change the sand of my tank.... is it safe?
it looks good but what u want is the bed to be standing above the tank bottom here are some photos i found hope they help. thx for the pm update as well. hope this clears it all up for you
also there isnt usually any flow in the aerobic zone...other wise it would get oxygen.
you you really want a reverse flow .. kind of like a fluidized bed filter......
i really think if you have a powerhead sucking water through the sand bed rather than blowing then you will cause a nitrate trap and drown out the sand...

I agree, reverse flow would be much better. You need the water to gently move under the sand and back up through it. Also, don't be concerned about not getting live sand, if you can get live rock, then the sand will become live by it's self over time. In this way the critters are doing all your work for you. Also, remember for a DSB to be effective, it needs to be exactly that DEEP so that NO oxygen can reach the bottom. I am concerned that even very slow flow will prevent any type of anaerobic bacteria from living.
