Hello everyone! Just wanted to update everyone with the developments of my 5 juvie discus that i got from Kenny last week. For now I keep them in a 29 gallon grow out tank afterwich they will be transferred to my 55 gal planted tank.
The Water parameters on my tank:
Ph: 7
temp 86 F
dGH: 5ppm
dKH: 1 (my tap water is very soft) i have a question about this in my old thread
http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=167422&page=2

ammonia: 0
nitrate: 20 ppm
nitrite: .2 ppm

I feeed them at least 4-5 times a day alternating them with frozen blood worms, frozen turkey heart, tetra bits and sometimes omega one flakes. From what I have observed so far is that they really like the Frozen blood worms. I do 50 % water changes every other day. Also the tank has a thin layer of gravel on the bottom some plastic palnts and a blue background.

The strains that I got where:
Blue Diamond x1
Checkerboard pigeon x1
leopard Discus x2
blue cobalt x1

Well enough of that here are the pics of my babies:
ps: pardon the quality of the pics I used my phone to take them....

Very Nice Discus!!!

Beautiful Marl! Makes me wish I had an empty large tank to fill up!!!
Hey I notice you have one of those worm cups. I didn't think they made them anymore, have not been able to find them. Where did you get it? I have needed one of them forever!

I got mines from Big Al's online. They should still have them I think.

very nice
I did notice tho that you have a small amount of nitrite showing up. you may want to do daily water changes to minimize exposure to the nitrites. prolonged exposure may result in some gill function problems.
hang in there .

btw with larger water changes often you should be fine with the 1 dkh.

Thanks you very much! As for those worm cups I got them at my LFS here in Queens. If you really need some I can get you a couple and *wink *wink bring em over when I check out your beautiful discus. :grinyes:

I got a cone feeder (worm cup) at that fish place. They had them in stock when I was there yesterday.

Beautiful discus guys! I just got 5 from ken's stock as well (but through popopsfish). I am loving them! What flake/pellet are you guys feeding in addition to the frozen foods?

jinkz

I feed mine a mix.. i feed color flakes in the am with some colorbits..mine love colorbits. in the afternoon I mix brine, bloodworms and beefheart.
later a bit more colorbits.
any good flake. pellet is fine. I just found mine preferred tetra brand.
If I had NLS around i would give it a try...

I feed young discus atleast 4 X daily.. adults 3 small meals.

hopefully, Deb, will pipe in with some pointers too.
