I decided to get a little fancy with my DIY Aquarium Light Project. Here's the completed 1.0 project:

Bought a 19" gooseneck from Amazon, as well as some Solla 30W Floodlights with Cree bulbs.

A close up view:

They look nice but I don't really understand LEDs & how much or what type is needed. I "seems" like the sword on the front left may not be getting enough light but it could be the contrast. I like the moodiness.

The tank is actually brighter than it looks in the photo.

These are two 30W LED Floodlights. The nice thing is, if I wanted to up the power to a 50W LED, It's only $10 more per flood light. The real saving comes in with 30W and 100W flood lights.

Good to know, I think I get it now. We have solar electric roof panels for almost all our needs but I'm open to learning more. Your system seems great! I'm always willing to learn more but I'm not sure how to translate your data to mine.

Cool! I love DIY!

I ordered these from Amazon and they're arriving today:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BNCFE72

These will convert the uncommon thread size at the end of the gooseneck (5/8 27 thread) to standard 1/4" 20 thread. Then I can get rid of the eye bolt and zip tie and just screw the LED bracket directly into the end of the gooseneck. Should make it a tiny bit cleaner.

These flood lights have a 180° spread, so I think at some point it would be a good idea to encase them inside a lid with white or glass sides to reflect more light down into the tank.

Minor update. The adapter came in, allowoing to bolt the light directly to the gooseneck. I also ziptied the power cord to the gooseneck. Looks a lot cleaner now.

Now I just to wash the glass canopies.

Looking good. Crees are supposed to be good diodes. What is the CRI on them? How do they look?

Edit: answered my own question CRI = 75+.
