Hello everyone!

I started making my DIY canister today. Did some leaky tests just to make sure it would work. It does! So I whipped out the silicone and just have to wait for it to dry:silly:.

Some pics:

I've always wanted to do a continuous vacuum system, so for the intake I am making it the vacuum of my old python that broke(before I realized how easy it was to make one). Obviously I'm going to need to do something to make sure nothing swims up there lol.

Output is still a couple pieces but this is how it will sorta look.

Also has an on/off on the output which really should be on the input but I am WAY too lazy and inpatient to re-silicone this and wait for it to dry lol.

Top has already been drilled and siliconed for the powerhead cord and a line so I can run co2 or air or any other gases that I may please through the output.

I'm not 100% sure what I am using for media yet. I have some fake snow stuff that I might use. The artificial turf that you see in the pictures will be going along the very bottom. I'm also going to be throwing in a layer of lava rock. I don't know else to throw in there!

The whole thing is water tight, and I'm not worried about pressure at all, the lid is ridiculous to get off lol. The powerhead is also set up to push the water out while sucking it in. So if it fails I wont have to worry about flooding my house.

Comments suggestions, please let me know what you think!

I'm going out of town tomorrow so the real test will come monday or tuesday when I get back. I wish silicone dried in 5 minutes. I really want to use this thing lol
 
I am interested to see how the inside is going to be setup. How are you going to disperse the water evenly inside the setup?

this has been something I have been wondering too. I've come up with the idea of something sort of like a plate that can hold water to a degree with holes in it. Or I've also had the idea of something like the tip of those things you use to water plants with all the holes in it that spray everywhere lol. If I did that though I would probably have to hook a powerhead up to the intake which would be no problem, just to help keep the flow up. The way I've set this up, water will continue to flow out of the filter even if the powerhead inside the filter is turned off which is just another nice security to have just in case one of the powerheads fail.

So far I like the "plate" idea the best though, that way I wont restrict flow too much.
