My Ebay Secret some have asked for

no whats pathetic is paying retail ! I spend alotttttt of money on ebay and if its a really good deal even better. Dont hate the player hate the game :) The best part of the software to auto bid is you set your maximum bid and go to bed and the software bids for you at 3am when your asleep or at work you get 1 shot at winning some you win some you dont but overall its very handy software and i have saved hundreds of dollars using it so the 20.00 cost for the software has more then paid for itself.

any of them work with linux? i'd rather not "snipe" a site while i sleep on a windows pc. they crash for enough reasons while people are awake. plus with several of my own, the wife, and both my 5 yr old and 2 yr old all running windows it can be a lot of maintenance when things go wrong.

Unfortunately Sniping is the only way I have been able to win anything, because someone usually snipes the auction I am bidding on. So If you cant beat 'em, Join 'em!

I never felt pathetic using the sniper tool :) I figured out what I was willing to pay for whatever, put in my max bid, and went on with life. You get an email telling you if you won it or not (I almost always did and for less than my max bid). If I were using eBay much now, I'd use the same thing again :)

auction tamer is another program like the one rod mentioned. they do come in handy sometimes. most times, though, i don't use them, but then again, i do not buy much on ebay anyway.

there's some site that (for free) uses their own servers, and are they're located close to the eBay servers too. They (of course) claim to be 100% reliable, and you can set the snipe time to a mere second if you wish.

but like Jill-O said, I just bid what I'm willing to pay for it, if someone else is willing to pay more for something, then they will. But if they really want it, they better have a fast connection and even faster fingers, because they may have a long way to go, and not much time!

The only things I've found sniping good for are those things that nobody really needs/wants, and therefore no one is willing to actually offer a decent bid on it. You do however get lucky sometimes.

I kinda feel bad about this though: finding an item that's in the wrong category or poorly labeled, and likely to have few serious watchers. Then not bidding to make those other watchers think the little activity means they're the only ones watching and about to snipe... then sniping those. otherwise, make a bid, and move on.

I wonder, has anyone here ever sold anything that had no activity until--not the last 5 minutes but--the last 10 seconds or so? Did the item sell for what it was worth? More?

Auction sniping is more common than people realise..Its the same as anything else, if you want something, you'll use all means / tools to get it..

Personaly, i dont like them, as it removes the human fun aspect of trying your best to be that last bidder before the time runs out...

My auction websites have an auction sniping feature built into it, but, its turned off...

Being an IT major statements like this make me cry. Its not hard to secure a windows PC... Hell, you don't even have to pay for anti-virus software anymore... (http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/)

Yes, I love Linux too... but its FAR from where it needs to be for the common home user. Sorry for the rant, that is all. :lol2:

I use esnipe. It's a pay service, but has worked well for me. Eliminates bidding WAY too much at the last minute cuz you "gotta have it"

I set my price and I get it or I don't. 95% of the time I win. And the other 5% I usually get it the next time.
