My experience with clove oil.

I agree, Dave. It's not something that I want to experiment with either, but I think I will do so next time I need to euthanize a fish. If anything, it'll help people like Patoloco who don't live in the US or Canada and may not have easy access to clove oil, or the clove oil products aren't marked as clearly.

I hope I'll never get to try it, but I'm sure at some point I'll have to put a fish down.

I have had to euthanize a few fish in my day. The quickest method ive found is a butcher's knife or cleaver. Often enough, I use a filet knife as well. Removing the head works well. Death is instant. Not very messy either unless it's a large fish, in which case I would suggest that you do it outside the house or in the sink. My 2 cents.
