My Experience with New Life Spectrum

Some of the claims he makes are unsupported or at least he take a little liberty in them. Obviously there are exceptions, but in general I have found that in most cases the claims hold true. I personally did try it as part of a varied diet and found no difference. When I tried it exclusively I did see a big improvement and understood the results others using it were claiming. The logic is that if you have a very nutritious diet and then add things to it, it becomes less nutritious and the results will not be the same. I have seen this many times, as have many others. Does that mean that when you tried it exclusively and did not see an improvement that you were wrong, of course not. You have to do what makes your fish do their best. If that is NLS exclusively, great. If that is NLS as part of a highly varied diet, great (and let us know about that diet).

good point, ricky. i've heard lots of good things about NLS, i guess i'll give it a go when i eventually start keeping fish again.

I am feeding NLS to my discus in addition to FBW. They like it alot but definately do not eat it like they do frozen foods.

My LFS that I use most often feeds exclusively NLS so rarely a problem for me in having them adjust; i feed it plus a spirulina tablet plus veggies.

When I do buy a fish from another LFS that doesn't feed it it takes about 2 weeks before they will take the NLS.

I had discus that weren't quite settling in and were losing weight. So I gave them the Thera+A and before too long they were settled in and growing like the rest. They have been fed NLS exclusively for over a year and a half now and look amazing.
The most color improvement I have seen is in African cichlids. NLS brings out colors in them I have never seen on any before. From a light purple iridescence over the whole body, bringing out colors on the gill plates, bringing out very detailed colorations in the fins, to just simply greatly enhancing the colors you normally see.

Hi, reptileguy!
Very interesting your experiences with NLS; so I have a few questions related to your experiences with African cichlids specifically:
1. Have you fed them with Thera+A, Cichlid Formula or both?
2. Is there any difference between using one or the other food of the 2 mentioned in question #1?
3. Would you use Thera+A instead of Cichlid Formula as the daily regular food for African cichlids?
I hope you can answer me these questions. Thanks in advance!

Thera+A is always a good option. It has a lot of garlic in it so it can prevent and treat parasites.

In general all the formulas are the same (except for the grow, Thera+A, and a couple others) so just pay attention to pellet size and whether it floats or sinks. I usually use the Jumbo Fish Formula since it is the smallest floating pellet. It is too big for smaller ones to eat immediately. This can actually be a good thing since it means they grab one and swim around with it for a while until it softens and then they eat chunks off of it. This means that less aggressive eaters get their share too.

If you have sand (which is better for African anyways) you can feed the smaller sinking pellets. I just posted an article on sand in the General Freshwater forum if you want to read about that too.
