My favorite fish is a frog

I have been running my 60 gal marine tank for 2+ years. A year ago my friends gave me their 29 gal fresh tank. I set it up with 65 watts Power Compacts, a bunch of plants, and CO2. I added some fish - neons, some kind of sucker fish, a blue shark looking thing with a spot on it, two albino coiries, and two dwarf frogs.

Unfortunately, I sucked a frog out during an early water change and I did not know the frog was in the bucket until much later when I happened across the bucket in the garage. Sad. (Yes, I noticed he was gone, I figured he crawled out and got eaten by my dog)

Anyway, I picked up another frog today. I have to say - the dwarf frogs are soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo cool. I am surprised more people here do not talk about them. It is so cool to watch them in the tank.

They're the best!
 
they do talk about ADF's quite a bit. there's also an article about them in Article Corner.

they seem fun, but I don't too much care for how they look :o
 
I hope it's ok to use this thread instead of making a new one, but I have a question re;frogs and their activity level. I have an African frog in my 90 gal tank (only had it for a few weeks). I don't think it's a dwarf frog however because it's about 2" long now and will eventually get to the size of a hand. Does anyone have any experience with this variety of aquatic frog?

Also he mainly hides until the lights are out then he gets move active..but only slightly.

One more question. I am worried about his diet. I drop sinking shrimp pellets for him, however the other fish in the tank are such pigs that they always try to eat it before I ever see him get to them. Now I drop them a few hours after I turn the lights off in hopes that the others won't see it and give the poor frog a change to eat it...but w/o lights I can't be sure.
 
You have an african clawed frog. You need 2 give it it's own tank. Or it will make it it's own tank. they eat anything that fits in there mouths.As for the feeding try to target feed. get a long pair of tweezers and hold the food right in front of it.

youre wrong. what made you say that?

if it says its a dwarf frog, its not gonna be a clawed frog. besides, clawed frogs are rare compared to their dwarf counterparts.

A ADF does NOT get the size of a persons hand! A clawed frog does.
I agree with honda. Your frog needs to have a tank to himself that is escape proof or else he will most likely eat your other fish. Also, with my frogs, I actually hold a frozen blood worm cube or other frozen food in my hand and hold it just above my ADFs heads. They've learned quickly to eat from my hand or eat whats floating around right away.
Also, I don't know a ton about clawed frogs, however, at 2" he may not be that active because he is in too large of a tank. I know ADF don't do well in anything bigger than a 29G. I had five of mine in a 55G to start with. One tried to go up for air at the surface and died before he could reach the top. I had been told that they need to be in smaller tanks but me being bull headed I thought they were doing fine in my 55G. They weren't active at all and hid most of the time. Well after I lost my first, I move the remaining 4 to a 10G with some glofish. They are SUPER active now and growing like weeds! I can honestly say they are so much more happier in the 10G vs. the 55G
Anyways, thats just my .02 worth.

My ADF actually will swim together, case each other, have races to the top (I swear it looks as if they were doing it on purpose) and when scared or sleeping, the huddle together. Its rare I see one off by him/her self.
Some people may not find it exciting, however, they sure keep me entertained for hours on end.
