My first 20 gallon tank

Great idea for a background..........:)

Cool! Might I suggest going for one of the darker cory species, like a Sterbai? Sterbai's are gorgeous and will stick out against your light substrate. I fear that if you go with a panda cory or something similar, they will disappear against your light substrate.

Great start!

I love your tank! you have a great eye for design! I'm thinking this tank would look great focusing on simplicity, the stock seems cool, but I would do a monoscape, one species of plant, anubias would be neat, and possibly one species of fish as well. whatever you do I bet it will be stunning.

have to agree i think it would be good with exclusively anubias, i wouldn't add any moss the the background ether because it looks so good by it's self. another consern i would have with the tank is how little light there is. just personal there i've seen people pull off great scapes with just as little light.

liking it alot ... will look forward to the updates

Thanks for the great comments everyone. And thanks for the suggestions rsanz, marinkafuschia, and Ozymandias.

So, when you all say stick with one species of plant such as anubias, should I use a variety of different anubias or should I pick I specific anubias plant and go with it. Also is there a type of anubias that grows about 10-12 inches, so I can use in the backdrop? BTW Ozymandias I am also concerned with the lighting, I would like to upgrade it but I am trying to find to cheapest and most effective way to do so.

I think either a single species of anubias or multiple would work, they all have a similar shape and that's the part that makes tanks with one species appealing, the uniformity.
I like your idea of getting a taller type to use as a background plant, I think your idea of mixing species will add a lot of depth to the overall design while still keeping the simplicity of it.
either way I'm really excited to see where you take this!
with the lighting a trick I like to use is just get a plant specified grow light to stick into the already existing fixture, adds a boost of the spectrums plants like best and wont be too much money out of pocket like getting new lighting will be.
by the way the rocks are on the inside right? geez they just look so cool! come over and do this to my 150g please!? lol
