just got back from my LFS, i requested low maint. low light plants. they gave me some amozons, they look good.

they said that my ver low watts of light (17) might do the job but to keep my eye on them, also said no fert is required but to add some tablets "PLANTABBS..Aquarium plant food"

what do you guys think?

ah i did by a 20w bulb but it appears to be dimmer than my 17w bulb..

What's the size of your aquarium? This is an important factor to know when determining the amount of light you have (low, medium or high) For example, 17 or 20 W over a 90 g aquarium would essentially be the same as no lighting for live plants, where as 20 W over a 5g can be considered high light.

As for low light, Swords don't do particularily well. Also, Swords are heavy root feeders, so if you have a substrate such as gravel, then it would be beneficial to add those root tabs that you mentioned.
