My first tank -- am I doing anything wrong?

Hmm... I'll go look up tank cycling. I've never heard of that before.

And yes, my uncle commented that goldfish are very 'dirty' fish, so I imagine that having two in a relatively small tank would require a good deal of cleaning. If I do decide to put the goldfish in the 10 gallon tank, are there any bottom-feeding fish like plecos or cories that can stand colder temperatures? The pleco and the cories I have right now do a great job of keeping the tank all nice and tidy, and having a bottom-feeder in with the goldfish would be very convenient.

Heh, yes... well, the angels turned out to be delicate. There were a variety of reasons they could have died (temperature, pH levels, amount of food they ate, fish I kept them with, oxygen in the water, fish ick), but until I get a bigger and more stable tank, I'm not going to get another angel.

And that would explain why the molly died! :) Thank you! I'll be sure to keep that in mind if I ever buy one again.

No, a goldfish cannot live in a 10 gallon tank for 2 years. Black moores are Fancy Goldfish and grow 6-8 + inches and he will do that rather quickly. They are waste machines, like plecos, and their tanks need to be double-filtered.

Absolute minimum tank size for ONE goldfish 20 gallons, with either two 20g filters or one 40g filter. A 30 gallon for one fish is better. For each additional fish, add another 15 gallons and filteration to match.

You should not mix tropical and coldwater fishes. It'll lead to health problems for one of the two, depending on whether you decide to heat the tank for the tropicals or leave it cold for the goldfish.

Best tankmate is a Mystery snail or a coolwater dojo loach, but you really need to go the 30 gallons for a loach.

Mollies are better in brackish water.
Mollies are not "better" in brackish water. The mollies available in the stores are born and raised in freshwater, as are their parents. Freshwater is fine for them.

Only wild mollies really need a true brackish environment.

Ooh, alright. I don't know what sort of filter I have on there right now; it came standard with the tank. I'll go check that out soon.
Thanks very much. :) I guess I'll have to take that goldfish back to the pet store I bought it from.

fish toys

nice to see the rock on a string is catching on. dont forget to change the color of the string every once in a while. i hear they prefer the purple string they know if you are cheap and only buy the $35.00 rock instead of the $45.00 ones.
