What about electric fences? Those can't be too expensive, as my dad use to use them in his hunting dog fences when I was little. You could put those in some creative places, and they wouldn't see them at night.

I would love to, but we have dogs and cats running around, not to mention I feed birds and I'd hate for one to land on it..
