my fish died...

No they were skinny b/c they would stop eating thats about it. Well they probably died from the stunting and the whole BW thing. I mean Ive had fish tanks before, and nothings ever died on me. I had went to Iveys and saw the black fin sharks and were facinated by them. There were people there who bred them and told me all about them and everythign but nothing about BW was ever brought up. I should have done the research on them before I got them, I figured somethign had got into the tank and was killing them.

i change out about 10-20% of the water each week and had my water tested about 4 times now, and nothing showed

stunting deaths can generally take some time to actually kill the fish. it does happen and most likely would have been an issue.

By BW do you mean Bad water?

can i suggest, if you want to get back into keeping an aquarium, to get a test kit.

many of the LFS's use the chemical test kits but I do see some of the chain stores using the test strips( a decent quick test but not all that acurate or easy to read)
cycling is not changing water. cycling refers to the nitrogen cycle.

what were your test readings? you should get ammonia, nitrite and nitrate readings..if you rely on petstores to test your water, you need to find out what they mean by 'ok'.

if your readings are where they should be. then you can start to look at other reasons thet migh thave contributed to the problem.

in any case don;t get discouraged and keep asking question.

by bw i mean brackish water

and? so did you PROPERLY cycle the tank, as in, allowing beneficial bacteria that eat the ammonia that fish pee has in it time to grow and mature so that your fish would not literally pee themselves to death?

Aim for 35% or more per week. What all did you test your water for? Were they dip tests (notoriously innacurate) or the kit with the little tubes? Read the article I linked to earlier on cycling before you try with more fish.
