my fish hides all day

Thanks for everyone's advice,

so, I clean the 10g, then save the mulm, then put the water into the new tank? or just put the mulm in the new tank with new water? Sorry, I dun understand. I'm not smart at this >.< after I've done all these, then I add the water conditioner and stuff? Please advice,

Thanks,
Crystie

If you're going to do a partial water change in the 10G, it wouldn't hurt at all to add the water you took out of that tank into the new one with all of the 'crud' you will be seeding the 25G with. At most, that might be 5 gallons or so, only 20% of the new tank's volume. Is that what you were wondering, Chrystie?

I usually just suggest to move the mulm, but that's only because I prefer to lay down my substrate/decos in as little water as possible. You still want to keep it wet, plus I like to start new tanks with fresh, clean water, dechlor'ed of course. But as sky.eyes points out, it's only a very small volume of the new tank, and the decanting of old water is more a matter of personal preference than actual science.

Dechlorinate the new water before adding it. Whether you add it before or during water changes after the tank is established won't make much difference, but in the startup stages it pays to be a little extra careful.

To keep it as simple as possible, just pour the whole bucket of mulm and old water into the new tank.

I had 2 powder blue gouramis with the same problem. I tried adding a 3rd to see if that would help. Nope, I then had 2 gouramis hiding all the time. I ended up getting another tank and putting the aggressive one in there. Problem solved.
The 2 that were getting bullied before are now fine and intermingling with the rest of their tankmates.

thanks everyone,
ur advices are very useful... :)
