flaringshutter. Human TB is caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Fish TB is caused by Mycobacterium marinum. They are related but M. marinum causes granulomas (small encapsulated pockets of bacteria) usually under the skin. Human TB infects the lymph nodes and other organs and causes the immune system to attack healthy tissue especially in the lungs.
I personally think that it is a sporozoa. I've never seen or heard of a fish recover from it. Sometimes they can linger in pain for weeks though. I had this happen to one of my first goldfish when I was a kid.
