This patch of white/yellow wasn't there yesterday. I immediately thought Columnaris (but it is only on one side). Does this look like Columnaris or something else (fungus, injury)? He is a relatively new fish. I q'd him for a week and then added him and another gourami to the tank together. The other is fine. They have been in the main tank for about 4 days now.

I have a 2.5 gallon tank that I 'm using for a q/hospital tank. Right now there's a fancy guppy in it recovering from fin rot. The guppy was never in the main tank. He developed fin rot while in quarantine and am done treating him. However, now I don't want to add him to the main tank.

I have upped the oxygenation (by turning up the aerator) and lowered the temp in the main tank (temp is currently 78 and I don't know if it will come down any further).

What meds to use? Treat fish separately or whole tank? Dosage requirements for any med will be tough to figure out in the 2.5gal tank, but that's all I have.

Thanks,
Michele

I would like to know this too. I had one of these guys get the same thing a looooooooooong time ago. He kicked the bucket and I never figured it out.

Yep!!

I got them from Petsmart. I have isolated him into a 2.5g hospital tank and am dosing with Maracyn and Maracyn 2.

At least he's out of the main tank. He's gotten worse throughout the day.

I also did a huge water change in the main tank..... and the poor little guppy that was in the hospital/quarantine tank has gone into the main tank. I hope he does OK in there.

Well today I thought he was deceased, so I went to take him out of the tank, and he swam to the top of the water, so he's not a gonner yet. I'll keep dosing him with meds till either he gets better or doesn't . :(

What ever it was, it moved fast. By the end of the day, it started to move across his back to the other side. I think it's a Columnaris infection. Now I have to keep an eye on my tank.

I also lost a Neon this morning, but it doesn't look like it had any fungus or infection. Maybe from the big water change yesterday....???

well, I'm certainly not an expert but it looks like it might be slime from a parasitic infestation. I would probably watch the rest of your tank carefully and perhaps take some medicinal profilatic measures in your main tank.

OK, so now I'm scared for my main tank

Thanks boofish2, he really doesn't look slimy, but he looks really bad. Yesterday, I did alot of internet surfing, and all things point to Columnaris.

And now I afraid it's gonna get all my fish.

Should I put him out of his misery, or do you think that the meds will work? Do I need to try new meds? I'm using Maracyn/Maracyn 2

What precautionary measure(s) can I take in my main tank? I'd hate to do nothing. Yesterday, I did a 50% water change. Should I do this again? Should I add any meds to the tank just in case?

I know "what ever will be, will be", but I need to try something. Sorry for all the questions. This is getting to me... :(

He's a gonner

:(

Sorry to hear about that. I have 0 expirence with what you said you think it might be. I certainly don't see how a lot of water changes could hurt anything. It's worth a shot. Hopeefully for you it stops with him.....
