Hi guys

This is my first post here.
I am deeply concerned about the fact that so far 3 guppies have died in my aquarium :( Whereas all the other fish seem to be doing fine.
I am relatively new to this hobby and hence fear may be I am doing something wrong.
Or, am I missing out on something that I ought to know about guppies ?

Help me guys

it happened the same to me a while ago. i lost 4 guppies for apparently no reason. they were ONLY males, so i figured they fought to death. now, everything is fine, but it cost the life of 4 :(

Guppies like neutral to slightly alkaline water (say, 7.0 to 7.4 pH) and water temps from 74 F to 84 F and fairly clean. Keep in mind that guppies are prey for many fish species, so they shouldn't be kept with agressive or fin-nipping types. A tablespoon of salt per gallon in the water can help.

A few questions : Where did you get these guppies? How long have you had them? What size tank and what tankmates?

Thank you for you replies guys
Well, it has been 2 females and 1 male so far :( Pretty amazing.
One of the females diedout soon after giving birth to about 6 young ones.
The tank is about 18" x 9" x 9", and the other mates are a pair of long fin zebra danio, a pair of oratus (i guess I am saying it right), a pair of blue morph, and a pair of gold fish.

The tankmates you mention will be rough on guppies. It will be difficult for them to compete for food with fast swimmers like the zebra danios. Fish like african cichlids, (M. auratus if I read you correctly) and goldfish will overpower them at feeding time and perhaps be aggressive in the case of the cichlids.

Thanks for you advice Thingfish :) I shall surely act upon it.
One thing is sure, I won't get my self any guppies for a looooooooooong time now. I am pretty much disheartened and discouraged by the way they died out. I am now left with a 1 male, 1 female and 4 young ones. No more guppies for timebeing :)

AND... thank you for letting me know the right word - M. auratus :)
The guy whom I got the fish from almost said it like Voratus !!! Not many helpful and well-learned fish dealers around

The danios shouldn't be interfering with the guppies capabilities to get food. But keeping them with a goldfish and cichlid isn't the best idea. Did you get your guppies all at the same time? If you did and if they all came from the same tank, I'd recommend isolating the remaining guppies to make sure they didn't come with some sort of disease, that is if you have any remaining ones. Hope that helps.

Thanks for you advice Ems :)
Well, under your nick it says Betta Lover.
I too am very passionate about my Bettas - got two of them
1 a shiny blue-turquoise and
1 black-red gradient one
They are very cool to watch.
Though at times I get worried when the blue one appears a little inactive.
How do you keep you betta pepped up ? :)
I am sorry if I am asking the work thing in the Guppy post. Plz let me know the right place here where I discuss this.

If it seems to be a bit inactive, make sure its healthy first (obviously :)). And if all looks good then for a brief minute hold up a mirror so he can see his own reflection, that should get him excited and flaring for a bit. I wouldn't do that too often though, because it can be stressful to betta.
