So after having this pair for roughly three months I was awoke this morning by my wife telling me she had found around 100-200 fertilized eggs along the bottom back wall of their aquarium. I'm super excited as this is the first time they have spawned for me. Research has shown me they are pretty good parents for the most part, but I am not exactly sure what to feed them once they hatch. I was thinking finely crushed spirulina flakes and baby brine shrimp.
 
Don't get too excited yet, I have 3 pairs in a 45 that have spawned several times. They're excellent parents tending the eggs and wigglers, but the fry disappear very quickly after they become free-swimming. Microworms would be a good food for the tiny new fry, but it will be at least a couple weeks before they'll be developed enough to eat.
 
They're the only fish in the aquarium so unless they get stressed or end up eating them because they are new parents then I should be alright. Actually, I believe my Mother, AC member saveone, purchased the pair from you and I eventually persuaded her into letting me bring them home with me haha

Thanks for the heads up on the microwormss, btw. Any other advice you would give me?
 
Just keep them cooler than most "tropical" fish, summer temps in the 70's and down into the 60's for the winter will lengthen their lifespans.
 
Congrat's Kalen, If you have some that survive i would love to buy some of those from you, I haven't seen those in Louisville..

Sure thing man, I'll keep you updated. I could possibly even meet you in Lexington whenever they are ready seeing as I am down that way pretty often.
 
Cool deal sounds like a plan yeah i am waiting on my Angels to do something but they are about mid way grown still have some time..
