My housemate is complaining!

a quick tank clean lasts 10mins
a tank scrubbing lasts about 20mins
.... no excuses for not keepin your own place clean lol

p.s you can always use the excuse of sitting back and looking at your good work swimming arround lol

lol....my bf tells me stuff like that too. tank maintanence is much more fun. the kids can do the floors, it's their mess anyways. lol

Oh for crying out loud! Here is the solution!!!

Get him "addicted" to the hobby. THAT is the secret. My husband complained in the beginning too. Now he can't wait for the new shrimp tank, and HE asks if I did the PWC when they should be done. Pretty soon you will have him doing the vacs!

Umm... why doesn't your housemate vacuum the house if it's so important to him? How much time you spend on your tanks has nothing to do with it and, frankly, is none of his business. Who decided that vacuuming the house was your job?

Ohhh! excuse me no matter how passionate you are about your hobby...neglecting your chores :O:O shockerrrr

live in filth whilst your hobby is in heaven..
sounds great..NOT!!

Are you kidding? The closest I can get him to interested in the hobby is a brine shrimp tank that he just had to have in remembrance of his Sea Monkey kit when he was a kid. I got him a little 2.5 gal tank and heater for his "sea monkeys," and when he expressed an interest in a betta, I got him a filter for it and a gift card to the lfs when he's done with his brine shrimp fascination to try to get him more interested. To no avail. I think that little tank will ultimately end up being one of the hospital/qt tanks when he's done. He actually just got on my case a bit ago about even talking about the fish and aquariums at all. "I don't go on about my video games that you're not interested in...." blah blah blah. No, he just goes on about everything else, like his blacksmithig and knifemaking, and what his friends did today or last night or.... Like I care! But I listen and would never even consider telling him not to talk about it just because I'm not interested, or as interested, as he is.

We have two dogs and six cats, too, so yeah, the vacuuming gets done fairly often; his thing is that it just seems that I'm sucking up unused food and waste "all the time." But then, he doesn't make any time/effort investment in any of the other pets, either. Both dogs are mine (greyhound and weimaraner), and five of the six cats are, too. But even his cat I clean up after (and it's not really all that box trained, I might add) and feed. He's all about "appreciating" their presence, and not at all interested in their care.

Yeah, I know, it seems more like the ultimate solution is to toss his, and his cat's, butt out the door... ;) And go grab up that cute young thing at my favorite FS that was flirting with me last time I was in! :evil_lol::evil_lol::evil_lol::evil_lol::evil_lol: He wanted to hug me BECAUSE I do my vacuuming and water changes!! :evil_lol:

Btw... I started this topic as a light-hearted joke about aquarium maintenance. I'm sorry to see that there are folks who took it too seriously and/or took offense. :(

When did I say she should live in filth? I'm just asking why vacuuming, out of all the household chores, is her job when it is clearly more important to him. In your world, can men not vacuum? If she doesn't do it, it can't possibly get done? Sheesh. They should work out a division of chores, and the amount of time she spends on her tank has nothing to do with it.
