my humble tylo snail tank

That's not a Badis badis, that's a Dario dario. I have a very similar combo in my tank; darios, gold tylos, red cherry shrimp. I approve of your tastes!

oh i goggled pictures of darios and badis and both came out the same fish. anyway, they are so useful in keep the worm infestation population in check and most importantly, they dont disturb the snails.

and how big is your adult golden snails? i got mine quite small, and they dont seemed to grow much

do you breed to sell them?

i dont have enough population for them to breed and sell. Might even have trouble to get enough babies to replace the older ones if they happen to pass away. These snails breed slow and the babies takes forever to grow up. i have a yellow spotted baby, which is around 3-4 months old, with feeding everyday, still only about 1.5 to 2cm...

Badis get 3 inches long, Darios get 0.75 inches long. The bast way to tell the two apart is by looking at the pelvic fins. Badis=round, Dario=pointed. They're both just as feisty.
They're great little worm busters! Planaria don't stand a chance against them!

My goldens (which were labeled as yellows) are about 1.25"-1.5" long. Hands down, they're the biggest things in the tank, aside from the otos which are constantly hiding. I'm hoping the reproduce.

thanks for your clarification on the darios and badis.. very useful for me.

i think they might be yellows instead of goldens. From what i know, goldens grow until 0.75" max while the yellows grow bigger. I have both yellows and goldens in my tank and generally, the yellows are bigger than the goldens.

i hoped you will have success in breeding. How many snails do you have? The more you have, the chances of breeding are better. Mind telling me your water perimeters?

Looks like they were labeled correctly then. I only have two. I hope to get more soon. My perimeters are pH: 7, KH: 100+, GH: 100+

it'll will be better if you can raise your ph to 8 or 8.5. that's the water perimeter from their natural environment and i believe all the tylo snails that we have are all wild caught. although the GH and KH are quite low in the lakes, i find they do well in medium hard water, at least the babies borned in my tanks do not have shell degration compared to the wild ones.
