THis is a stocking question folks...

I've got a 30 gallon, with a powerfilter AquaClear 70. I currently have 1 baby Siamese Algae Eater (yes, the real kind) and an adult SAE (also the real kind, totally not territorial). And then I have 3 Amano shrimp. I just bought 12 Lemon Tetras, and I would really like to get 2 Dwarf Gouramis.

My husband is kind of grudging about my new found hobby-love, and he just saw some fish he likes - Cherry Barbs. Does anyone think I could fit them in? ugh... I change the water 50% every 2 weeks.

Also - I've heard conflicting things about Dwarf Gouramis and Amano Shrimp - will they get eaten or not? I got the Amano Shrimp first so they could mark their territory - but that reasoning I probably made up in my head.

thoughts?

shrimps do not need territories in your tank. In the wild they dont make territories either, so it wouldnt have really mattered which order you put those two in. but, I would keep an eye on the gourami if you put it in. they might attack the shrimps if hungry.

Gouramis will most likely eat baby shrimp but will probably not bother adults. However, you should probably consider only one rather than two to avoid aggression issues as jm said.

that's a good idea - just one Gourami! So then could I fit a few cherry barbs or still no way....?

Ive heard that alot about 2 dwarf gaurmis being aggressive toward each other ... i have 2 red Dwarf Gouramis... they never fight or anything -- actually one is a pretty shy fish...... he doesnt even come to the top when its feeding time -- he stays at the bottom and catches food as it falls.... he's a really really shy fella.... even when a neon or the cory cat swims by him he runs the other direction....

Like i said ... they dont fight at all... I wonder if i got lucky -- or becuase one has such a shy personailty or what......

Sometimes I actually feel sorry for him he's so shy......

the other one dont bother anyone either... but hes not shy at all... very social....

guess i just got lucky?

IMO--Yes. Cherry barbs are OK in a 30gal. with a dozen lemon tetras. About 10 is OK. But now you MUST do weekly water changes, you will be at max BIO load.

Cherry barbs are probably the most peaceful (and one of the smallest) of all the barbs, so that aspect shouldn't be an issue.
