My Invertebrates

Best of luck with the procedure on your knee! Sounds like a partial or full knee replacement...

I wish, I am to young at 30 for them to do a replacement because of my activity level, so this is the procedure to hold off the procedure, lol. I had several things done:
1. ACL repair using cadaver tissues
2. Meniscal clean up
3. Plates and screws to stabilize my tibia
4. My bones spurs were shaved off
5. They drilled my knee cap and ran cadaver tissue through it and anchored to the bones as well as ran it under my hamstring somehow to try adn stabilize it.
6. Hamstring transplant to use for aforementioned procedure

Its been obscenely painful. I still have another 2-3 weeks before I can start to walk, then 4-6 months of physical therapy 2-4 times a week which is supposed to be brutal in itself, lol. They have me on very powerful narcotics which I am really not enjoying and will have to stay on through therapy. The good news is I will have a more functional right leg than I have in the past 12 years and really look forward to doing things with my young children I have never been able to do. Such things as play soccer other than goalie, play baseball with them, teach them to ride bikes without training wheels, take them sledding, go for walks on the beach, etc etc. I have high hopes for next summer! Thanks again to all of those who have sent their thoughts and well wishes. I really don't know if I could have gone through all of this without the support of my AC family!

oh man msjinkzd, how did u injure ur knee? i blew out my acl over a year ago while playing basketball, thought nothing of it until i injured my knee for like 4 more times before i had surgery on it this past february. so i went through all the ligament repair, mensical cleanup, physical therapy, etc. no fun at all. the first week i could not walk, had no strength in my leg. second week i tried to put a little bit of weight on it, but mostly still on crutches. third week i walked with a limp but didnt need crutches, as i was pushing myself to get back to work ASAP. so i went back to work after three weeks, but def not 100%. i work in an animal hospital where i constantly need to be on my feet, use my leverage against big stubborn dogs, etc. i went through about 6 weeks of physical therapy, they always hurt like a !@#$! but i endured it so i could regain use of my muscles faster. it'll take time and patience, but it will work out for the better. good luck with everything!

Dang Rachel... I didn't know it was THAT intensive. My thoughts are with you even more than before. Your outlook and optimism is a testiment to your character. If you ever need anything, you know where I am.

Wow! A complex procedure, but they are clearly giving you the "works" to postpone the full replacement for as long as possible... you'll likely be considering that replacemnt procedure seriously in the coming decades. In the interim, an arthroscopic procedure here and there to clean up meniscal tissue and otherwise debride the joint is likely in the cards.

You have my full sympathy! Congratulations on fighting through it and for your determination to be there athletically for your children. The Physical Therapy is often overlooked, but is at least as important as the surgery itself. If you have a top-notch PT, his/her goal will be to lose the narcotics as soon as possible.

If you're anything like me, working on the tank (or tanks in your case :grinyes:) is one of the most relaxing forms of mental therapy available. Please keep us informed of your progress.

Need some more pics when you are up and about jinkz!

Absolutely Bob! My husband took me down to the fish room yesterday for such much needed visitation. Other than my snail casualties all were looking great. I cannot believe how big my abn's had gotten. More good news is that the crystal reds who had the huge die off have been very busy, I have many many babies of various sizes which was wonderful to see.

Wow! What an extensive surgery. You poor dear.......My husband had his meniscus removed in his left knee two years ago and is left w/ bone on bone (which is grinding away!) until he is old enough for total knee replacement.
I am very glad that you got to see your tanks yesterday. I am sure it was theraputic for you. Best wishes for a complete recovery. (p.s. I don't like the narcotics either - make me feel creepy!)
