Hello every one,
I have about 10 Jewel cichlids and tought they were still very young, but today I saw a female spawing on a flat piece of broke pot. I am curious to raise some of them.
I would hold off on the water changes if that were me. Congrats! cool pics. Goodluck with it all. You got a bunch of eggs, hopefully everything works out.
Thank you guys for the complements. I will keep you updated. 2nd day, the female is still there fanning the eggs and the male is next to her for protections.
At this point, the eggs should be opaque. If so, they are viable, if white not good. You now need to make a choice - hatch them away from other fish so more fry survive or let the parents raise them. Your call on this one.
You should also get set up to hatch BBS. Start the egg cysts when the jewel eggs hatch to wrigglers so they are ready when the fry start free swimming.
Good luck. I have done it, although 30 years ago, and it is really a great experience.
