My little betta tank

I started the same way. Lucky a friend gave me some java moss, I DID plant the moss in the gravel and grew it like a grass. Some well placed rocks and it practically looks Zen.

Your Betta is technically a Steel Blue Veil Tail. They are tropical so a heater and salt in the water 1 Table spoon per 5 gallons, will help keep him healthy.

The water temp has been around 75-76 degrees, at this point I haven't bought a heater for it. Is it necessary, or is 75 deg warm enough.

Seventy-five is OK, but they prefer 78-80; bettas come from very warm water. More important, however, is having a heater to keep the temperature stable. You want to avoid fluctuations that will stress your pet and make him vulnerable to disease.

I disagree about the salt, however. Bettas don't come from environments with salt in it. Just doing regular water changes to keep his water as fresh as possible should be enough to keep him healthy.

You could also purchase from the many enthusiasts on here that sell their plants. Check the classifieds to see what is offered. If you don't see anything that you like post a WTB thread.

Nice looking tank.
