My Mbuna Tank

justin, how many dems you got in there and what camera did u use? am planning on buying a DSLR probably a nikon...the camera i use rite now is crappy..

I had 13. I started with one nice dem, and ordered 12 more online. the 12 were a little smaller than the first one which became the alpha male. Everything was perfect, he kept all the others in line. I came home to find my alpha male had got his head stuck in a weird opening on my texas holey rock. after that, the dems went to war to find a new alpha. 2 dems died from the stress. so, I'm down to 10. I'd like to get a few more as 12-15 is the best ratio for them, but theres a tenative peace right now and i dont want to disturb it. oh, and I took the piece of holey rock out and broke off the piece that had that opening. they use the overhang as a little cave now, lol.

As far as the camera, it was a nikon. i think a d90. Im not sure. it was expensive though. my sis takes tons of cool photos. When I was taking the shots, it took some patience, but i ended up with some good ones. my main tank is very active and they follow me everywhere. the other one with the mbamba is the opposite. if they see the food, they will stay out, but otherwise they hide when they see people. much harder to get them

i have about 9-10 dem fry...hopefully all of them make to the adulthood...
guys, is there any mbuna in red or orange in color other than red zebra???

Labidochromis Hongi will have the orange to red fins with a blue body..

Melanochromis johannii: males are blue and black; females are yellow-orange.

i already have mianganos, demasoni, and cobue with blue black combination...i will be getting some saulosi soon from the same guy who gave me dem and cobue fry...so lot of blue-black goin on rite now...i think i should hold back on adding any more blue-black cichlids...
what do you guys think about pseudotropheus elongatus "chewere"? i was think these guys wud add another color to the tank with blue spots on black body.

Nikon's dslr cameras are very expensive...i am thinking about going to d60...i think the price for d60 is around $600

I just got rid of a male Chewere and he was nice the blacks with the blue was awesome just super mean towards own kind even females..

I have a Nikon D40 with the extra lenses i paid 800 bucks new at HHgreg plus warranty and was worth every penny.. A 2G memory card to take up to a 1000 photos..
