My Mystery Pleco... Any ideas?

im still not certain on this it is driving me mad

i am pretty certain its an ancistrus sp of some sort by the shape of its mouth

its not a L128 as its mouth and eys are the wrong shape and postion

its not an L200 as i first thought but i do keep getting drawn to that sp

its not an l236 because it lacs the moustache

an l240 looks similar maybe a female

but then i saw this a http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/image.php?species=baryancistrus+sp(l319)&image_id=7754 L319 Baryancistus closest i can see and it has all the right bits and bobs but i cant find a good shot os a L319s mouth lol

thanks for all the suggestions. I will try blanched veggies tonight, but how do I get them to sink without a veggie clip (gotta pick one of those up)

It is definitely Hemiancistrus sp. L128. Just a large specimen is all. The angle of the photo is throwing off the shape a bit. I have 4 large ones just like this one ;). He should be eating more meatie foods, with lots of fiber. I use both algae wafers and NLS pellets, along with an assortment of frozen and what not. He does look thin, so you want to make sure your water quality is good to encourage him to eat more. Are you feeding after lights out?

yes but i wasnt sure if he was a meat eater or not... i know some plecos cannot have a lot of meat because they cannot digest it. I have some sinking shrimp pellets for my cories as well as frozen blood worms, are these good foods for him?

I don't think it's L128/L200 either (same except for color). I've got an L200 & yours just doesn't fit that ID right. You're 100% right in pursuing the correct ID in order to feed properly. Maybe we can keep this bumped to the top for the right ID. PlecoPlanet.com and PlecoFanatics.com would know right away what it was. They're slow boards, so sometimes you wait all day for the wrong answer :-)

If you don't trust planetcatfish.com for correct identification information, you might want to do some more research. The fish is definitely L128. Their coloration changes quite a bit as they mature. I'm pretty sure I have enough experience with them to give an educated id ;).

How warm are you keeping him? Definitely try a varied diet including some meat, along with his veggies. They are omnivores.

th thing that is getting me with the L128 sp is that the sp has only 2 pads of 'teeth' where as your sp has 4 .
one thing i see we all agree on is that it is a ancistus of sorts without having it looked at by a taxinomatrist your are never going to get everyone to agree on an id

the fact is ancistrus need some protien in there diet the hikari carnivore pellet will help with this also keep bogwood in the tank and feed it algea wafers
