hey was wonderin if i could get some help with my 70 gal,
ok i have got this tank fully cycled and am getting it decorated to the needs of whatever fish i end up getting.

i want a cuople of schools so-----
15 zebra danios
10 corys

and a couple of other pretty fish
2 discus
6 clown loaches OR silver sharks

does anyone have any objections to this?
 
If you got discus, the zebra danios (and possibly the cories, depending on species) will not appreciate the higher temperatures that discus like. Discus also like to be in groups of more than two, unless you have a breeding pair. Six clown loaches will eventually get too large. Same for the bala sharks.
 
I know discus definitely do better in an established tank. I would get a pair of mating discus but wait for about 6 months or so until your tank is more established. You could add smaller loaches such as the yo yo in a small school. Just as fun but grow about 3 inches long. If you get the loaches, you could add about 6 cories. I would forgoe the danios, they are such a dither fish they can be a little much in a group. Look for a nice group of tetras. The Serpae tetra is a beautiful red and add some vibrant color to your tank. They like a school of at least six.

yes i was thinking of buying a mating pair of discus, but will wait until my tank is a bit more established if i choose to get them. If i do I will buy the red mating pair that my freind has, and the lfs has a green and a blue pair if i decide to get another. the yoyo loach seems like a good idea. I prefer danios over Tetras as i think the danio is a lot more of a 'social' fish if you know what i mean... ive also had better luck getting a group of danios to have a tighter school than tetras.
I was in the lfs tonight and saw a tank of rosy barbs and thought they were pretty cool, but upon reserching them i found them to be fin-nippers. (ive had them in the past without any problem, but wont take chances) what do you mean about the danios being a 'dither' fish?

Having a pleco is not mandatory and is really not needed until there is the presence of algae in your tank. Even then you should suppliment the diet of the pleco with algae wafers and veggies like zucchinni. Also it is recommended that for most plecos that you have some driftwood in the tank since they need wood in thier diet. If you do decide to get a pleco, then I would stick with one of the smaller species such as the bristlenose pleco that only grows to abouut four or five inches. The common pleco that you see so much of at the LFS will grow in excess of two feet in a short amount of time and will be too big for your aquarium.

pleco's are never needed. Discus do best in planted tanks and plecos like to bulldoze plants.
 
True plecos are never really needed. However, discus only do well in a planted aquarium if they are sub-adults or adults. Juvie discus will and do waste away in a planted aquarium.

first of all, both clown laoches and balas get to big for you tank.

now that we have that out of the way,

corydoras do fine at the temps that discus like. discus do best in schools of at least 6, preferably more, or in breeding pairs.

it all depends on what biotope you want. there is alot you can do with a 70 gallon
