I finally got my king betta. I put him in my 29 gallon community tank monday afternoon. He is slowly getting use to his new home. I'm hoping he'l start exploring his new home more in a few days.
I haven't named him yet, I may need help figuring out a name for him lol. I'm horrible with names.
Anyway, here is a picture of my new guy:

I work at a petco store and we sell these kind of bettas as king bettas. I have no idea why they are called king betta. Thanks for the compliments surf4life87 and halfmoonplakat :-)

me thinks petco has labelled them 'king betta' just to up the sales..... he doesn't look any larger than an average betta splendens. to my eye he looks like your average (but very handsome!) short finned 'big box store' betta.

he does look a little stressed. is this photo from just after you put him in the tank? his fins are clamped up a little.

I just took his picture tonight. He's slowly getting use to his new tank. He's been hanging out in the one end of the tank while the other fish have been hanging out at the other end of the tank. I haven't seen any of the other fish bothering him at all. He has started to swim around more and has been a little more active since yesterday.

there are many different fin variations for male bettas, including short variations.

to double check, look on the underside of your betta, between the pectoral fins and where the underside of the belly seems biggest. if you see a little white dot/bump, you got yourself a girl. that is the ovipositor (spelling? lol), part of the female baby betta making machine.
