Has a pretty noisy trickling sound I didn't have a problem with my smaller bio-wheel filter but this one makes me need the bathroom constantly!!!
Any tips for getting it a little quieter i've tried increasing and decreasing the water in the tank both see to make it worse.

the only way to stop it is to take out the bio-wheel, really.

Bio-wheels can sometimes be noisey at first. As time goes on and the bacteria colonizes on the wheel the noise will not be as bad. Some bio-wheels are dead silent like the one in my room and there is no way to know which bio-wheel will do what. How high is the water level? I keep the water level in the aquarium with the bio-wheels almost to the tippy top to prevent the noise from bothering me and it will not affect the bacteria on the wheel or the performance of the filter in any way.

really? my bio-wheel is a noisy one too but i've learned to live with it.

You can try a piece of crafters canvas. It is that plastic mesh stuff that you can buy in the craft section of walmart... If you can attach it to the area where it flows out, it really muffles the sound of the water...You may have to play with it a bit until you get it right, but I REALLY makes it quiet... Also, as mentioned before, it does quiet down with age... How low is your water level? Raising it so the water flows out along the surface instead of "waterfalling" will make a difference.

A little off topic but whatever you do, DONT LOSE the blue doo-dads on the ends of the Biowheel...Expensive little suckers to replace...

My water level is just above so you can't see a line around the tank so not really going high into the black part of the rim. I can probably afford to raise it a little, having had a look although the run off slant part is well into the water it does seem there is still quiet a distance from the bio-wheel to the water.
Thankyou for the suggestions I don't feel so bad now knowing i'm not the only one, my 150 was soo quiet and now this 350 with it's double wheels is so much more powerful.

Pixie do you mean that stuff that you can do cross stitch on kind of?
It's hard plastic or am I thinking of the wrong stuff.

Ok i've managed to get it better by opening up the top valve all the way, to be honest I just think messing with it every now and again keeps it quiet and then it starts up again if moved accidently (very close to the light hood button).

thanx pixie . i have a penguin 200 that sounded like a cow peeing on a flat rock. small piece of the plastic mesh you suggested 24 cents for a whole sheet at wal mart. cut a strip and about 3 wide by 6 long and wedged just under biowheel and let it curve up and rest against hood . now it is super quiet. great tip. i was considering returning filter as it is only 1 week old. mine is still louder (motor) than i like. hoping it will get quieter as it gets broken in. if not i will return and try another one .
