My new bio-wheel filter

Hi. How do you make a splash guard? I might try that or the mesh guard.

My bio-wheel makes the tinkling sound when the water is just barely above the black line. Otherwise, if the water is lower the sound magnifies.

I have a new 200 on my tank but have an old 125 and boy it was a lot louder than the newer ones.

This is what I did on the older model Penguins. FYI it will also cuts down their current. Take a 20 oz soda bottle (Pepsi works good) and cut off the top and the bottom horizontally with a razor blade leaving only the part were you grip the bottle. Then with a pair of scissors make one long vertical cut. You can then attach this piece over the entire front of the filter output from the top and curving underneath the overhang. A piece of tape on top of the filter can be used to hold it in place if desired. You can barely hear the filter as long as you keep the water level at the top.

thanx pixie . i have a penguin 200 that sounded like a cow peeing on a flat rock. small piece of the plastic mesh you suggested 24 cents for a whole sheet at wal mart. cut a strip and about 3 wide by 6 long and wedged just under biowheel and let it curve up and rest against hood . now it is super quiet. great tip. i was considering returning filter as it is only 1 week old. mine is still louder (motor) than i like. hoping it will get quieter as it gets broken in. if not i will return and try another one .

You're welcome! Learned that from a friend of mine. I love 24 cent solutions!
And yes, it should quiet down with age...
