My new Blue Goldfish!

Here's a few pics of this unique feeder comet goldfish I bought for .50 at my lfs.

He's almost all blue and both of his eyes are fully black. On one side, he has a clear gill plate (which is called blushing in angels, I don't know about in goldfish), the other gill plate is silvery.

What do you think? I've never seen a goldfish with this much blue on it.

What do you mean FooF? I think you mean is he a sarassa comet or a normal comet right? If that's what you mean, the answer is I dont know. I'll look up the difference between the two and get back to you.

thanks i just got her yesterday! first, i thought her gills had some kinda problem because they're so red! then, i saw your pic and felt better. lol

Oh deffinitely. If you've ever seen a quality calico goldfish or koi, you'll see the same shade of blue on them (it's like sky blue). But the thing is that the blue is normally in very small quantities if it's even present at all, like on your telescope.

I think both of our fish are calico's, but rare ones, I'm not 100% about goldfish genetics though. I'm going to seriously look into breeding goldfish now, and try to develope a viable new strain of comet: almost all blue with all black eyes, and clear gill covers.

Very nice fish! Looks alot like a Shubunkin goldie to me though..but hey he is a good looking fish no matter what he is!

I see alot of the blue calico goldies in the LFS near me. I too LOVE the "slate blue" coloring...as I call it. The more blue on them the better. I have seen some pretty ones, but I don't intend to buy one any time soon though. Don't have a proper setup for goldfish and all my other fish do keep me busy quite a bit...lol..
