My New Little Fuzzy Butt...

AH!! that is an AWESOME spidie!!:)

And you are right...its not all that bad--its kinda cool:) Cant wait to see more pictures!:)

Vicious I give you the props, I can't stand roaches. We went to a house that had them and my sons asthma attack couldn't have happened at a better time. I was like YES!! Hubby wants to start a roach colony but it's not even up for discussion.

Lol, I breed them for feeders for my other herps. These are Blaptica dubia and are pretty tame compared to the type that can infest apartments. They don't smell, can't climb glass, can't fly, are slow and are tropical so they can't survive cool room temperatures if they happen to escape.

Well, I was looking at your resent pictures and hubby confirmed what I thought that you do have a mature (ultimate) male. Has it molted since you got it? You have about 2 to 3 years after the last molt. You still need to raise the substrate a little more, basically if he can barely touch the top you are okay.

I'm glad you like Sophia. She is one of my favorites. I do have other pictures maybe I'll start a new thread with pictures in it. Hubby is planing on getting me a new camera for Christmas.

Yea, Vicious I know hubby told me as much as well but I just get the heebee jeebees just looking at hissing cock roaches. We bought a A. purpurea from a from a friend and I had a fit when I saw the roaches in them. Once in awhile I think about buying my crickets at the reptile swap but I hate having to clean cricket container out at work so I'm not doing it at home either. I buy them as I needed since I work for a pet store. I just bought 100 large and 60 small. I do that once a week. What other herps do you have?

OK...thanks katschamne...I have some more of the brick of Bed-a-beast.....so Ill mix it up and add it!...he seems to really like this substrate better then the sand alone!:)

That is great to know about the length of time I should be able to have him, but no he has not molted sense I got him. Oh and is it normal for them to stop eating when in the molting process? I know that this is what is normal for other Herps-but have read/heard different things about spiders.

Oh and yes I do like Sophia..she is beautiful--cant wait to see your soon to be photo list of your guys!!:)

I bought this colony of B. dubia in March of this year. 50, week old roaches for $15. They finished their final molt about 3 months ago and have just started producing offspring for the past 2. I had planned on picking up a trio of Ackie Monitors earlier in the year but that fell through. The roaches were going to be an additional food source for them. I got a free baby African Bullfrog (Pyixe) last month and he loves eating them. I also feed them to my 20+ Leopard Geckos. Along with these guys I also have a pair of Stinkpot Musk Turtles, 4 Eastern Box Turtles and a Red Cheek Mud Turtle.

Most spiders will stop eating when they go into pre-molt. There are some signs leading up to molting. The signs are slowing down, their abdomen will darken and they will look really fat and they may not eat. When Sophia was in pre-molt she didn't eat for about 2 months. Once they molt you want to wait until their fangs are black because when they molt their fangs will be white. Here is a post that I had back in August with my rose hair Fluffy molted he is an ultimate male as well. http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=160644&highlight=tarantula+molting

Vicious, right now I have a 2 yrs old bearded dragon, 5 viper geckos, albino pacman frog and 85 tarantulas that eat the crickets each week. Don't ya love "free pets"? I hear it all the time where I work "all that for a free platy, crayfish?" etc...

Sometimes I like free pets. This was cool because I've always wanted a Pyixe Frog. There's some pictures of him in this link. I think he's doubled in size since last month when I got him.

So are you getting a lot of babies off those Viper Geckos? A friend of mine has a trio that he's been trying to breed. As soon as he's successful I'm going to get a few off of him.

I thought of breeding them but i got them at the same time and I think that they are all siblings so I haven't tried to breed them. I might get a different male from some one else and try but not right now. The guy that I saw at the reptile swap had one and said that he hasn't gotten his to breed yet but he has no problem with his dwarf dune geckos( I think that's what they were?)

I remember your pictures now. I loved your pixie frog. I don't see my pacman frog too much, just at night when the lights are off.

Here are some up dated pics of him--with me holding him!!! Sorry they are kind of fuzzy...as he was moving a lot-and my mom was freaking out about him falling!LOL
