Well after months of saving up, waiting, preparing, and waiting some more, I finally got a Russian Tortoise. (S)he was hatched sometime last year. I got it shipped here from a specialty pet store in CA. It's beautiful, healthy, energetic, and it has a big appetite. I could not ask for more and I'm very happy with my purchase. Here are some pictures:

I just love Russian Tortoises. They seem to call out to me when I'm in the pet store ;) Good luck with him/her. They have so much personality :)

Do they really have cool personalities? I'd love to have a tortoise, but their lifespans scare me off. I guess if I were to get one, I'd need to get it now so the chances of it outliving me would be smaller! lol

Thanks guys!

It will be living in that tub for the rest of the winter, and when I get make some more room in here I have an enclosure similar to a tortoise table but not exactly like one I can put it in. As for being outside, I'm going to dig up all the dirt from my garden, then put new dirt in and fence it off so s/he can have supervised playtime outside. I live with my mom and we rent an apartment in a bad neighborhood so I would never leave it out there by it's self.

This little guy is quite the character so far. When I opened up the box and brought him out he opened his eyes and gave me a look like "HEY! I was sleeping! You jerk." And of course when I out him in his tun he started running around and exploring. I gave him some greens and he ate right out of my hand =D

They really do! Many people don't realize how playful they are, or how much personality they have :) I had one that let me hand feed her and pet her little head. Sweetest :) I would go for one. It's also nice to watch them chow down on the veggies. You can really see them chomp chomp!

They sure do have a lot of personality, from what I hear and from what I've seen so far. 50 years is a good bet on how long they will live but it could be even longer with proper care.

Great little pick up! Good luck with your new tort.
