My new Russian Tortoise

Thank you very much!

Nice tortoise

I think if I ever get a tortoise it will probably be a Red Foot. They sort of remind me of big box turtles.

There was someone on my local craigslist rehoming a red foot for free a few months back. We e-mailed back and forth a few times, then I asked her why she was rehoming it so cheaply when they cost so much and never heard from her again.

New, better pictures

Woohooo got hold of a camera that is 10x better than my mom's camera phone for better pics. So earlier I took some new pictures of Lazzara "Lazy"

It's been a little over a month since I've gotten Lazy. So far, so good. I'm also leaning towards thinking Lazy is a she based on the straight tail with absolutely no curve, but it could be too young to tell.

i'm totally jealous. i [FONT=times new roman, new york, times, serif]want a tortoise really bad. i hope you post a lot of stuff about it.

Looks good! I bet you can't wait for it to get warm so you can put her outside to graze.

You bet. I'm unsure of the soil quality in my garden so I'm going to dig up a good 6-12", move it to some spots that could use more dirt and put some safe clean soil down, then plant tortoise friendly native grasses and flowers and stuff and fence the whole thing off. She can only stay out there supervised but someday I do hope to have a nice house with an outside pen where she can stay all summer long. Til then I'm moving her into an 8 sq ft. indoor pen that will give her much more room to run around in than the rubbermaid container. If she is a girl, she'll need it. They seem to get quite a bit bigger than the males.

;-; I was in the pet store the other day and they had a greek tortoise together with a russian and they were on that repti bark crap with grapes for food and a teeny tiny water dish. The greek seemed okay but the poor russian was so dehydrated and it was just lying in a corner. It was really in bad shape. They should follow their own instructions and take care of their tortoises according to the pamphlets they pass out.
