I found yesterday why my oscars were behaving strangely. They made a nest, with a flat rock on the bottom a few days ago and did not let the pleco come anywhere near it. Yesterday I noticed my tiger oscar had VERY vibrant colours and the pair were circling around this nest. I had a closer look and found hundreds of little eggs (beige colour, like large sand granules) on the rock. They even tried to attack me through the glass.

Ok, so I guess one laid eggs, whats the chances of these aggs hatching, and if they do, then what?

search the archives a little to find your info. Most ive seen they will probably eat them or do something silly like that. It might take a few tries for them to hatch fry. there's been a lot of posts about breeding lately so you can get some better ideas of what to expect. once established they should breed evry month or so and the eggs should hatch in 2 or 3 days. what else is in the tank? some fish might get killed if they get too close and some fish will just eat the eggs or fry if mom and dad can't stop them.

The chances are very good that they will hatch. Like has been said, watch out for the other fish in the tank both for their own health and the survival of the fry. Oscars will very aggressively defend their young like most south and central american Cichlids.

If the eggs are not fertilized, they will turn solid white. Then you'll know if you'll have fry or not.

Good luck!

I wondered about that. I had a few in the 1st batch that were solid white. I thought it might be un fertalized or just plain bad eggs.
