I have an albino oscar and a red oscar. I've had them for like 5 months. I only have them in a 29 gal tank. I'm am getting them a 70 gallon tank on the weekend. They have been cleaning a hole in the rocks in the middle down to the glass for the last couple of days. And swimming around weird. Is it possible for them to be breeding in this small of a tank? If it is do i need i flat piece of slate for them to lay their eggs on, and what do i do when the eggs hatch? Please help me. Thank you.

from what you described they are getting ready to breed this is the exact same thing my convicts do before they breed and they have breed about 4 time now (convicts breed like friggin rabbits) and yes it is possible for them to breed in a small tank mine were in a 10 gallon (don't worry im in the prosses of settin up a 60) they dont need a flat piece of slate or nething chances are they already have a spot picked out which is probly the "roof" of thier little "cave" as long as you dont have any other fish in your tank you should be finve if you do you may want to temporarly move them cuz you oscars are goin to be pretty grumpy for the next couple months -lol- good luck

thank you

Should i still transfer them to the bigger tank i was going to get them this weekend or should i let them be. If i just let them be should i move the pair of oscars immediately after the eggs hatch or when, and how do i take care of the fry?

if it was me i would leave the oscars be for now if you have anyother fish in the tank i would move them to the larger tank (they will thank you for it) if you want to keep the fry you may want to move the parents when the fry become free swimming but the parents WILL take care of the fry but somtimes have a tendancy to eat they after a while (a couple months) or if they feel the fry are being threatened ((SP?)) they fry are easy to care for they sell "special" food for the fry at petsmart (or atleast thats where i found it) but you can grind flakes into a fine powder as they obviously have little mouths -lol- hope i helped good luck with your fish
