I did a 50% water change on the 28th and everything was going fine, also cleaned my filter (didn't change anything).

Today I tested my water and the Ph is 8 or so normally sits at 7.5 or 7.6...........My tap water tests at 7.5 also, so what would cause the rise in PH in my tank??????

Everything else is in the normal range and the tank has been running well over a year now....................

I plan on doing a large water change within the next few days to try and solve this, but just wanted to know why it could of happened.......

Did you test the water before using it? Might still be worth testing it now. Some cities use different water sources at different times of the year, so it can vary drastically.

agree, try testing the tap water. How thorough of a cleaning did you do on your filter?

My tap water is 7.5 or 7.6 my KH is 195-200 ppm

I cleaned all the media, replaced the floss I use and the ammo chips. The other media was rinsed with aquarium water.........I do this every month or so and have never had problems.

Test it after it's sat out in a bowl overnight. I'm betting that the pH goes up--water under pressure becomes supersaturated with dissolved CO2, which drives pH down (it's an acid). Once CO2 levels equalize, the pH goes up.

Do you frequently get bubbles on the glass and decorations after a water change?

No.....also why would this just happen now? my Ph has always matched the Ph right out of the tap.

I will try this today and also will be doing the water changes to try and lower the Ph..............I will post results.

If the fish aren't stressing, and until after you've tested the aerated tap water, I wouldn't do any changes. If the water is supersaturated out of the tap, you'll want to start aging the water to avoid spikes in the tank.
