if you want you can keep your puffer. they are fun and engaging fish, and will do well in a brackish water aquarium for life as long as you keep it in the high range (specific gravity 1.017-1.020. specific gravity is the measurement of how much salt there is in the water). brackish water is somewhat salty water, but not as salty as the sea. you will need to buy MARINE salt, and hydrometer or a refractometer to measure the specifc gravity. gradually increase the salt concentration as he grows (if he is still young) or to the desired range over a period of 2 weeks if he is full grown, which he will be at about 6". I would feed him shellfish and crustacean meat, beefheart, and frozen or live worms. live snails are also good if you can get them, as they help wear down his teeth, which never stop growing (like rodents). make sure there are lots of hiding places and live or fake plants for him to explore, as they are very intelligent fish and need mental stimulation. they do require special care, but if you give them what they need you will be rewarded with a fun fish who has lots of personality and spunk.
