Hi all,

Looking for some opinions on my 6 gallon fluval edge tank. It's been running for about 2 months now and is stocked with a crowntail betta, golden mystery snail, zebra snail and 5 amano shrimp.

Plants are a crypt wendtii brown, pygmy chain swords and a moss ball.

No CO2 but I'm dosing daily with Flourish Excel and Flourish Comprehensive every 4 days. Plant growth is very slow and I'm thinking of taking out the rock to make room for more plants. Problem is the lighting really restricts my options because it doesn't give much light to the edges of the tank.

Any suggestions on live stock and plants? I'm thinking of adding some Ottos or Cories in there after adding more plants.

Totally agree with you on lighting near the edges...pretty ironic cuz it's called the edge but no lighting near the edge haha...

Maybe get some ludwigia or Anacharis(I'm not a fan in display tanks, but it will grow well) and plant near the edges to grow it up...it should do fine without the super direct light...Or maybe rotala(i'm not sure for this as I don't know how strong those leds are...)

Love the betta and the rock/crypt layout tho:)

Another suggestion: Move the plant in the rear left corner up and maybe do the ludwigia thing or maybe go for an amazon sword of some sort?

If I were u i would leave the rocks where they are, they look awesome !!! Maybe plant something in the back like Java fern, hornwort, a broader anubias like Barteri, or maybe like some dwarf sagittaria. Get some cherry shrimp too then it will be popin !

I agree, the rocks are great! I'm not sure how tall this is but based on the size of your betta , I'd say it's appx a foot tall. I wa going to suggest Corkscrew Val as it gets 10"-12" but Vals don't do so well with Excel. AS OBlitzO said, some larger dwarf sag would work just the same. I personally wouldn't do stem plants in such a small space - too much work.
