Good start! I always find a planted tank a "work in progress".
Don't crowd your plantings. Spread them out a little and let them take their natural form. They'll fill in for you.

I only have 2 plants that i actually know the name. My water onion and my beloved anubias nanas. The anubias' have new growths every 2-3 weeks. My other plants were either from a plant bulb( far left) or collected and thoroughly rinsed( some type of water lily- far right. Behind my nanas. I do plan to get a crypt wendtii 'red' soon to add more color.

Good start! How about a nice big rock near the intake? My husband was recently "early retired" so I know what you mean about that, Kyle. I used to live in the "greater Boston" area too. Have you been to Uncle Ned's in Millis, my fav? The RI club auctions were supposed to be the cheap place for deals but I never went...

i would move the heater from smack dab in the middle of the tank to the furthest left that you can, to the left of the intake for the filter.

Ill do that tomorrow to see how it looks. I have another piece of driftwood that im putting in once it finally sinks.

Great start kyle! I agree most planted tanks are always a work in progress!

Thanks :) and i agree i originally though i was just going to buy all the plants and viola Have have a planted tank but i soon tealized thats just not how it works. It takes time and some effort to get that just look it the tank. I originally planned to have a carpet and a moss tree but those two aspects alone require more attention than what i want right now.

That's nice. Is that a pearl gourami I see?

Nope. Its a honey gourami :) doesnt do much beside stay at the back of the tank but i love him. I was gonna get him a friend but i dont want to add more to the bioload. The tank has 1 honey gourami, 5 neons, 1 scarlet badis, and 3 ottos.
