I've had a trio of platys for over a year, being all male brothers, one was always loosing tussles and getting ganged up on(the pacifist), so I moved him up top with the betta 4 or 5 months ago. Being that the betta finds any leaf or decoration he can park himself under to cat-nap, I have noticed the platy has been doing this regularly now. First couple times I've seen it, I though he was sick or dead, but as soon as he sees me, he's bonkers as ever. I am thoroughly convinced he learned this from the betta.
With the two tanks, its amusing with the platys as you can clearly see the exact same levels of energy, where they frolic in the tank, and what time they go to sleep (about 10 minutes before the timer clicks off usually), even though they are separated. The only exception is that the single one now parks himself in and under plants, roots, and other overhanging decor EXACTLY as the betta does, completely still. Platy usually sleep in open water(as did he), always moving fins somewhat. I'll have to get a few pics of him lounging, but I'll have to sneak up carefully or he bursts out of position, sometimes he hangs out right next to the betta. Totally un-platy behavior.
