my pleco that i've had in my 90 gallon with my big oscar and 4 silver dollars for 7 years died today :( i can't figure out the cause of death, so i guess he just got old. he was about 9-10 inches long. how much does a similar sized one cost where you are? this is the common variety.

Sorry for your loss. Pl*cos are truly a marvelous species. :(

Did you have this fish when you started the tank? I only say this because fish that suffer through a cycle can have a shortened life-span as well ...

=( Im curious why he was only 11 inches, wouldnt they hit the 18iches-2 foot mark by 7 years?

yes, this pleco should have been closer to 18" in 7 years. Unless he had been affected by cycling of the tank and/or stunted earlier on.

hmmm, i've never heard that about stunting and cycling, but he was around from the beginning, yes.

Right he should of been massive by the age of 7.

Veyes - did you maybe have him in a smaller tank earlier on? I wonder if he got stunted. If not, he was probably just a runt! Not every single fish is going to live by the rules and grow to the large sizes... and fish that grow over a foot are often stunted in a 4 foot tank (I assume yours is a 4 footer?). I'm not familiar with plecos much so not sure how easy they stunt. Just measure your tank parameters just to be on the safe side, and sorry for you loss...
