I have the worst friggin luck... So on my 55g I have a fluval304. I just bought a vampire pleco and I have this weird pleco that i thought was a sailfin but now Im not so sure cause now hes gettin these 3 irridescent gold stripes on his face that extend maybe 3in down his back but anyhow... I tried a piece of cucumber and a piece of zuccini (1 after another) for the plecos to eat, but they didn't and they just kinda withered away. So then the water starts to get a little cloudy and I figured it was just the veggies I put in. It wasnt. Yesterday was crazy... My 2 parrots were floating tail up real close to the surface and were very pale. My hrp was chasing every fish in the tank and biting them when normally he is a calm fish. No one was eating. The water was real cloudy and I noticed that my (fake) plants werent blowing in the breeze so I put my hand in to feel the current and there was none... The filter crapped itself. I had to go back to work so I had my fiance do a 50% emergency water change as soon as I left. When I got home I had decided that since I have so much filtration on my 150g im gonna borrow my ac110 hob filter. Well I put it on my 55g and sure enough my water got clear. Only problem I forget was that ac110 came from an african tank with a ph of about 8.3ph and I didnt clean it out so my ph in my tank rose to 7.5ph instantly from 7.0ph and boy could I tell... My EXTREMELY SENSITIVE Parrots got even more pale and lathargic. I actually pulled the female off of the filter pickup this morning.(she was stuck to the intake tube. not enough energy to get off) Also stuck was one of my little snakeskins and she was dead. I had to leave 4 work... I got to work and all I thought about was my fish. Needless to say I was there till 12 and took the rest of the day off. I tried a new impeller magnet and cleaned the whole filter out, this thing looked brand new. I even took the hoses off and did them... Nothing worked. So far my parrots got there color back but still are not swimming, and they almost act drunk I guess. They wobble every now and again like loosing there balance. The water has since dropped to 7.3ph nitrates at 20ppm nitrite/ammonia 0ppm. Btw the redpoint is still kickin a$$ and I dont know why? Sorry that just went on and on but Ill keep u posted.
