MY Red Cherry Shrimp Arrived!

thanks! believe me i can't wait either :)

I got to thinking about what else I could do with the mesh from the moss wall yesterday and I'm currently stitchin up a storm. If it doesn't turn out to be a total disaster I'll post some pics later :p

well I posted my first DIY thread in the DIY forum on this lil gem

Moss Arch:

I topped it with some lace java fern (windelov) and here it is in action with the latest pic of my RCS tank. I did a little more scaping today--wanted to move the java fern off the substrate so I strapped it to the DW and the arch ^^

I also got a new hood for increased lighting (just a small move up to 20 watts from the old stock 15w hood) hope that gives the moss a little more oomph.

Ah, thanks for the compliments and I guess it has been awhile huh? I can't rightly call it just a "Red Cherry" tank anymore, gotta be fair to the snailies and expand it to "Invert Tank." I'm actually pretty religious about photographing my tank (certain specific sections like the moss wall and moss arch) just so I can track the plant growth as the tank matures. As yall probably know and I'm continually being reminded, java moss grows oh so slowly so the wall and arch hasn't filled in very much, but I can definitely see progress!

Several of the original 15 red cherries have hatched their berries and I currently have at least 80 shrimplets scurrying about. Aside from those there are two bridgesii (Brooklyn and London) and my little Clithon corona, Hornsby.

As far as plants, I removed all of the milfoil as it was on its way out :( and added
-Rotala rotundifolia
-Dwarf Sagittaria (Sagittaria subulata)
-Sunset Hygrophila (Hygrophila polysperma 'Rosanervig')

Now enough of my blabbing! Time for photos.

Full tank - there used to be a second filter on the left next to the moss wall, more on why it and most of the shrimp are absent in a bit

And finally, a shrimplet from one of the first hatched berries taking a ride on the SnailRail. For scale, you can see the thickness of the aquarium glass on the very right, which is 1/8"

Currently, there are only plants in the tank except for maybe 3 shrimplets that I couldn't capture. I'm visiting family for christmas and since I have to be away from the tank for 3 weeks, I moved the snails and shrimp to a 10g rubbermaid so a friend of mine could look after them. I turkey basted exactly 68 baby shrimp, one by one, from the tank to the rubbermaid (talk about a back ache). In addition to those, 2 of the 4 berried shrimp I moved to the rubbermaid earlier that week hatched their berries, so before the turkey baster shrimplets, I already had two berries worth of hatched shrimp running amok in the rubbermaid. If I had to guess, I think I have almost 100 shrimp total from msjinkzd's original 15 :D

wow! The tank looks great and thatsalotta shrimplets! I am finally starting to see my blue/black babies running around. :grinyes:

thanks noods! have your blue/blacks been multiplying like crazy for you, too? I remember you saying you had at least 4 berries, maybe it was 6?

Looking great! Soon you will be pruning your moss arch, it seems to take awhile for it to grow through but once it does it goes very quickly. I can't believe how much everyone has grown! They all look so healthy and the tank looks great. ENjoy your vacation!
